Residence Service Officer (RSO)

A Residence Service Officer is a student position with Residence Services. Residence Services operates under the Housing & Conference Services Department. RSOs work at the Loyola Residence Desk helping to maintain the safety and security of the Residence Complex. Staff have the ability to work up to a maximum of 32 hours a week, have a flexible work schedule and conveniently work on campus. 

RSO staff receive over 50 hours of training both online and in the classroom to prepare for their RSO position.

Front Desk Operations:

RSOs run the Loyola Front Desk. Staff will use their customer service skills to engage with residence student’s concerns and needs. Staff will encounter situations like giving directions, entering work orders and responding to incidents that occur within the residence complex. The Loyola Residence Desk acts a residence security base and RSO staff are responsible for maintaining the security of the residence complex.

Policy Enforcement & Incident Response:

RSOs are responsible for policy enforcement within the residence complex. RSOs are taught residence policies and relevant university policies so they can effectively maintain a peaceful living and studying environment within residence. RSOs respond to incidents that occur within the residence complex. Incidents can range anywhere from a noise complaint to a medical/emergency situations.

Requirements to Apply:

  • Must be a fulltime student at Saint Mary’s University
  • Must have the ability to read, write and comprehend English
  • Understand that staff work back shifts (overnight 12am-8am) and 4-6 hour late night foot patrol shifts. 
  • Have Customer Service Skills/Experience

References:

Along with your submitted online application, you need to have five (5) individuals fill out an online reference form. Preferably you would have three (3) professional references and two (2) personal/character references. However, this is not mandatory. These individuals need to fill out and submit the online reference form independent of the applicant.
